General Electric's aircraft engine plant in Lynn, Massachusetts wanted to improve its Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Program to help achieve OSHA VPP Star Site Status. JMC Consulting worked with GE management and the IAM Union to develop prototype JSAs for 30 varieties of machine tools used in the manufacture of jet aircraft engines. These prototypes were used, in conjunction with JSA training classes for hundreds of supervisory and hourly workers, to help GE develop consistency and expertise in their JSA program. GE workers then proceeded to write JSAs on additional manufacturing and maintenance tasks. Follow-up refresher sessions helped keep the program on track in striving for OSHA VPP Star Site Status.

JMC Consulting has completed many different types of projects for Pitney Bowes. Our company consolidated the safety and health policies from multiple corporate manuals into one Corporate HS&EA policy manual and developed a new procedure for policy writing. This eliminated the possibility of conflicting policies and established a single source for HS&EA information. We also designed a greatly expanded safety performance evaluation format for management personnel's annual appraisals. This enabled the assessment of performance based on multiple proactive safety and health efforts and reduced reliance on injury-based factors. A long-term project employed our industrial engineering, ergonomic, and safety experience in the startup of a new business venture called Ergonomic Solutions. We were involved in re-design projects at major mail handling facilities for the United States Navy, the United States Copyright Office, and several major banks. Other projects involved specialized safety training for hundreds of associates at several Pitney Bowes facilities and hazard assessment surveys focusing on machine guarding and OSHA compliance issues.

Mr. Cwikla has been affiliated with the National Safety Council for over 20 years as a Senior Safety Consultant and as an Instructor for many of their safety classes including all of their Advanced Safety Certificate Courses. He teaches regularly around the country for the NSC and for regional safety councils in New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Delaware.

Domino Sugar wanted to improve their procedure for the safety design review of equipment or facilities which were new or were being moved to other locations. Improved design review should eliminate the need to retrofit equipment after installation to meet safety requirements. Our company developed a new safety design review questionnaire to assure that all potential safety hazards are addressed before installation. As this procedure was being developed, an entire production line was about to be moved to another location. Our company applied these safety design review principles and recommended several changes involving spacing, access to machinery and movement of a planned wall. The movement of the production line went very well and Plant Management was commended for the quick and efficient installation.

The Plant Facilities Department at the Bayer Pharmaceutical Plant in Connecticut did not have an active Job Safety Analysis (JSA) program. Our company conducted JSA training for several groups of Facilities Dept. workers and helped them prioritize tasks for JSA development. Follow-up training involved the writing of JSAs on specific maintenance tasks. The workers then proceeded to write additional JSAs on their own.

The White Sands, U.S. Army New Mexico Missile Range wanted specialized safety training to meet their needs. Mr. Cwikla worked with another certified safety professional in the field to develop and conduct several three-day training sessions. These sessions targeted specific military needs and exceeded even the expectations of the Base Commander, an active-duty General.

Our company has developed a ten-year relationship with Boeing through our affiliation with the National Safety Council. We have conducted NSC Advanced Safety Certificate Courses for thousands of Boeing employees at multiple sites in the Seattle area, Wichita, KS and San Antonio, TX. Due to our continued superior course evaluations over a decade, Boeing has requested that only four instructors, including Mr. Cwikla, be used for this project to maintain the high quality learning environment. Many Boeing employees have commented over the years that "This is the best training course I've ever had."

Our company developed a safety manual for a Union Carbide research facility in Tarrytown, NY. Five different divisions of Union Carbide had research personnel at this location which housed experimental laboratories, equipment and offices. The site did not have a safety manual that addressed the variety of activities that were being conducted. Our company developed a multi-step procedure for writing, introducing, and obtaining approvals for new procedures and wrote the entire new site safety manual.
